Preliminary Task: Creating A Storyboard From Initial Ideas

We all decided as a group to base our task on a sixth form student, this lead to the opening shot being an establishing shot to show the viewers where the scene is set. We were given a task to complete the two minute clip using only 12 shots, we managed to do this in 11 shots using a range of different camera shots, movements and angles. We used the 12 shot challenge top make sure our clip was the correct length.

I have learnt how to complete a story board using the 12 shot challenge to plan a short clip effectively, I have also leant what looking space is which is a camera angle! I have learnt how to use a range of different camera shots, angles and movements to make the clip seem realistic and consistent.

  1. Can you explain to me in greater detail how you think going through the process of storyboarding will help to ensure a better end product than just trying to go out and film your raw footage?

What, in particular, does creating a storyboard such as this force you to think about?

  2. Creating a storyboard forces you to think of the shots you will need to use in order for the clip to be successful; it will ask ensure that the scene is organised and in order. It also forces you to think about the camera angles and movements and what ones will fit the scene best.
